Wonderful insects

There are so many amazing insects in Taiwan that you could discover a new one every day. And after years, still find one that surprises you.

Out in the country side or mountains are the best place to find them. But you can also discover them in the city parks and household streets too. Like the giant grasshopper, wasp moth, weevil and water skimmer below.

Around dusk you are often drowned out by the piercing cicadas as they siren through the trees.

There are lots of different dragonflies too. My favourite is the red winged one but the big blue and red/black river ones are pretty special too.

Beetles are everywhere. All shapes, colours and sizes.

And lots of interesting caterpillars as well.

And here is an incredibly long earthworm we discovered on a rainy mountain road past Sandimen just recently. (I know. Earthworms aren’t insects!)

    Thanks Liss,
I’m glad you enjoyed it. There’s lots of great things to see and do in Taiwan. Insect spotting is just one of them. You would really love this place (in the not-so-hot-and-sticky wintertime:-)

  2. I agree – Taiwan is an entomologist’s paradise. Last week I came across a walking stick insect crossing the road. Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera with me.

    Thanks Kaminoge,
There are so many of them. I would like to discover more beetles but that requires some serious mountain and bush searching. The butterflies are very plentiful. I have taken quite a facination to the dragonflies.
Just yesterday I caught this brilliant orange one on camera.

  3. Incredible view… Look around all the nature view, you will figure out how good to travel around in Taiwan. Enjoy the great time…. Cheers

Yes, there are so many great insects here in Taiwan. And I have only got a few of them on camera so far. Ah so many more to catch.

  4. Really talented photo shooting there and of insects that really do not hang around to get their photo taken too.

Leanne, my partner, thinks you have missed your calling. But then it is never too late.

    Thank you,
It is really not too difficult to find so many insects waiting for a portrait. Specially here in Taiwan.

  5. Excellent collection of pictures!

  6. It is very hard to shoot in the right position, especially with very small and fast insects. Using a macro lence can help immensely. Have a look at my new online store, you can find some nice macro photos, too. It is my first web-project, if you like, leave a message how you find my new website.

    Thank you!
    All my best to you!

    Cheers from Germany
